ORGANIZATION CONSTITUTION
Article 1: The name of this organization shall be HILLEL of CHICO/JEWISH STUDENT UNION.
Article 2: The primary purpose of Hillel of Chico/Jewish Student Union is to foster an on-campus social and cultural student organization to promote, educate and develop Jewish literacy among a diverse student population through events, holiday celebrations and activities shaped by Judaism, Israel and the Peace Process.
Our organization has a 30-year history as a social club while encouraging cultural welfare of Jewish students and residents of Butte County, California, its main emphasis being the students of California State University, Chico.
Article 3: Membership – to be a member one must attend at least one meeting per semester. In order to have a quorum and conduct a business meeting, five members must be present which include the officers.
Hillel of Chico/Jewish Student Union will prohibit illegal discrimination based on age, race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or gender expression, marital or veteran status, and physical or mental impairment.
Failure to follow our constitution and/or additional offensive and inappropriate behavior will result in termination or temporary withdrawal from our student organization. The specific offender will meet privately with elected officials, board members and off-campus director to determine a plan of action.
Article 4:
Duties:
Article 5: Regular meetings shall be held at least once a month during the school year.
Article 6: Officers – President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer.
Article 7: Elections – Officers shall be elected annually by a majority of those members attending the first meeting of the semester.
Article 8: Duties of the officers shall be as follows: President – shall assist in writing and delivering meeting agendas and call meetings; Vice President - shall run meetings in place of the president when the latter is unable to attend and take care of publicity; Secretary Treasurer – keeps minutes, takes care of correspondence, and oversees financial records.
Article 10: Amendments – the constitution may be amended by a vote of 2/3 of the members present.
Article 11: Assets of the organization shall revert to Congregation Beth Israel, Hemlock Street, Chico, California if the above organization should become defunct. Congregation Beth Israel is the initial support agency for this organization and represents the Jewish community of Chico.
Article 12: The faculty adviser or advisers shall be appointed by the executive officers with the consent of a 2/3 vote of the membership present. Removal shall be achieved by a parliamentary motion and a vote of 2/3 of the membership at a regularly scheduled meeting.
Article 13: Alcohol Policy– our organization permits the use of alcohol under the terms specified below.
Article 14: Dissolution of Organization
(1) The proposal and decision on dissolving Chico Hillel/Jewish Student Union shall follow the procedure for amending the constitution described in Article 10.
(2) Disbursal of Assets: Should the club disband, the executive board shall disburse the assets to Hillel International. Should no officers be available, the director of Student Life and Leadership (or an appropriate university official) shall be authorized to make the disbursal.
(3) By signing this form, you acknowledge that you are to follow ALL the requirements and rules of Chico Hillel/Jewish Student Union. Refusing to follow rules can result in removal from the organization.

- Participation in activities
- Attendance at meetings
- Support of committees
- Voting rights
- Discounts on courses Hebrew, Tanakh, etc.
- Discounts on concerts and events sponsored by the organization

- All officers must be currently enrolled students.
- Removal of an officer – shall take place after a vote of a majority of the total membership, the Executive Director and Hillel Board.
- Election and Removal:
- Officers shall be elected by a simple majority vote of the members present at the first meeting of the fall semester. 60 percent of members must be present to meet quorum. Removal of officers must be decided by a 2/3-majority vote of the total voting membership. If vacant spots remain in certain positions, President has the authority to assign members to positions.
- If any officers are unable to serve for any given reason like the President or Treasurer please refer to the items below.

- Officers shall be elected by a simple majority vote of the members present at the first meeting of the fall semester. 60 percent of members must be present to meet quorum. - Club members who are of legal age must make responsible choices at events at which businesses legally serve alcohol.
- Club members who are of legal age are prohibited from purchasing alcohol for members who are under the legal drinking age of 21 years old.
- For the expression of religious purposes, the use of alcohol is permitted for all members in the maximum amount of 1fl.oz. per member.
